He rose to fame in the late 1990's as a member of the boy band 98 Degrees. He was also known before as Jessica Simpson's other half, having starred with his then-wife in the hit reality television series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, which ran on MTV for four seasons, from 2003–2005. Born in in Harlan, Kentucky, Nick attended Cincinnati's well-regarded public School for Creative and Performing Arts, developing his vocal talent and aspiring to become an entertainer. After graduation, he studied at University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles and then moved to Miami University in Oxford where he studied sports medicine. While finishing up at Miami, he formed a group, which was eventually called 98 Degrees. Other members include his brother Drew Lachey, Justin Jeffre, and Jeff Timmons. The group has released 5 albums and has sold over 10 million records.

The hot and sexy singer had a high-profile romance with fellow pop star Jessica Simpson whom he dated for four years, beginning in early 1999. During that time, they had a five-month break up, but say they remained in contact. They resumed dating in 2001 and married in October 2002. MTV featured the couple in the reality series "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica", beginning with their wedding day. The outrageous quotes, hilarious lifestyle, and mega-spending of the young couple made Newlyweds a phenomenon.

Following months of rumors and tabloid speculation, the hot and sexy couple announced their separation in November 2005 and their divorce was finalized in June 2006. Nick began dating former MTV VJ Vanessa Minnillo and they moved in together in April 2007, purchasing an apartment in New York City's Atelier Condo Building. In June 2009, Vanessa's publicist announced that the two had already split after dating for 3 years.

As a solo artist, hot and sexy Nick has already released two albums, the first was in 2003, entitled SoulO, and the second was in 2006, with the title track, "What's Left of Me". The song was a hit, firing up speculation that the its lyrics were about his divorce with Jessica. Currently, he is working on a new album entitled Coming Up for Air, slated for release in early 2010.
